Born: Montreal, QC — January 22, 1957 • Drafted: 1977 • Islanders: 1977–1987

Mike Bossy is the greatest pure goal scorer in NHL history. He scored 50 or more goals in each of his nine NHL seasons — a feat never matched before or since. Selected 15th overall in 1977 after teams passed on him due to concerns about toughness, Bossy immediately proved the doubters wrong. In 1980–81 he matched Maurice Richard's legendary mark of 50 goals in 50 games. He won the Lady Byng Trophy three times and the Conn Smythe in 1982. Chronic back problems ended his career at age 30. He passed away in April 2022, universally mourned across the hockey world.
