Born: Melfort, SK — February 22, 1952 • Drafted: 1972 • Islanders: 1972–1981

Lorne Henning was a founding member of the Islanders and part of their rise from expansion doormat to dynasty. A reliable defensive center, he was on the ice for the 1980 Cup winner — he assisted on Bob Nystrom's overtime goal. He transitioned into a player-assistant coach in 1981 and became a full assistant for the 1982 and 1983 championships. His number was not retired but his contributions to building the franchise spanned the entire dynasty era.
