Born: Brandon, MB — March 31, 1952 • Drafted: 1972 • Islanders: 1979–1984
Gord Lane was a rugged, defensive defenseman who was part of all four Islanders championships. A physical presence on the blue line, he was acquired from Washington in 1979 and immediately fit into Al Arbour's defensive system. He was not known for offense but was exactly the kind of gritty blueliner that playoff teams require — someone who makes life miserable for opposing forwards.
