Roland Melanson
3 Stanley Cups
Born: Moncton, NB — June 28, 1960 • Drafted: 1979 • Islanders: 1980–1984
Roland Melanson was Billy Smith's capable backup for three of the four Cup-winning seasons (1981, 1982, 1983). He shared the Jennings Trophy with Smith in 1982–83 for the NHL's best goals-against average. Though he played behind the legendary Smith, Melanson was a legitimate NHL starter who gave the Islanders elite goaltending depth. He later played for several other NHL clubs.
