Clark Gillies was the power forward and enforcer who made the Islanders' first line possible. At 6'3" and over 210 lbs, he was one of the most physically imposing players of his era. He cleared the path for Bossy and Trottier, fought when needed, and delivered goals and assists in key moments. His number 9 was retired by the Islanders in 1996. Nicknamed "Jethro" after a Beverly Hillbillies character, he was beloved by fans until his passing in January 2022.
