Born: Stockholm, Sweden — October 10, 1952 • Drafted: 1972 • Islanders: 1972–1986

Bob Nystrom scored one of the most iconic goals in hockey history — the overtime Cup winner at 7:11 of overtime in Game 6 of the 1980 Stanley Cup Final against Philadelphia, giving the Islanders their first championship. He was the consummate team player: tough, reliable, always willing to do the unglamorous work. In a career spent entirely with the Islanders, Nystrom exemplified the grit and loyalty that defined the dynasty. Few players are more beloved on Long Island.
