Born: Milton, ON — March 23, 1957 • Drafted: 1977 • Islanders: 1978–1986
John Tonelli was the hardest-working player on a team full of hard workers. His overtime winner against Pittsburgh in the 1982 playoffs — when the Islanders trailed 3–1 in the series — is one of the great clutch moments of the dynasty era. He set up Nystrom's 1980 Cup winner and was a constant presence in every meaningful moment of the dynasty. He was traded to Calgary in 1986 in one of the Islanders' first painful post-dynasty moves.
